New Delhi: The Sajjan Jindal-led JSW Group has officially launched JSW Motors, a dedicated automotive vertical focused on the new energy vehicle (NEV) segment. Backed by a planned investment of $2–3 billion over the next five years, the group is aiming to disrupt India’s electric vehicle (EV) market. The first product under the JSW badge is expected to roll out in the second half of FY2026.

JSW Motors will operate independently of the JSW MG Motor India joint venture with China’s SAIC. It will focus on manufacturing passenger electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid vehicles under the JSW brand.

Global Collaboration, Made in India

In an exclusive interaction, JSW Motors CEO Ranjan Nayak revealed that the company is in advanced talks with partners across Italy, Germany, South Korea, and China for the design and development of its NEV lineup. All vehicles will be Made in India, with operations based in Bidkin, Chhatrapati Sambhajinagar, Maharashtra, across a 630-acre automotive hub.

“We aim to combine Italian design, German engineering, South Korean welding technologies, Chinese EV innovations, and India’s software and supply chain strengths to deliver high-performance, affordable and sustainable vehicles,” Nayak said.

A Bold Vision for EV Penetration

JSW Motors' strategy focuses on building an integrated automotive technology ecosystem, ensuring minimal reliance on external suppliers. Nayak emphasized that the goal is to raise NEV penetration to 50% by offering a diverse lineup of electric, hybrid, and plug-in hybrid vehicles.

"We’re building world-class, technology-driven, and energy-efficient automobiles that provide unmatched value to Indian customers while pushing India toward energy security and clean mobility," Nayak added.

Inspired by Global Leaders, Built for India

JSW aims to emulate the global success of automakers like Tesla, GM, and Japanese brands, while also embracing relevant innovations from China, especially in battery technology and plug-in hybrid systems.

Nayak concluded, “Our ambition is to energize the entire Indian auto ecosystem and accelerate the country’s transition to a self-reliant and sustainable future in mobility.”
